EAST COAST RADIO
Daryl Ilbury is the host of the BIG Breakfast from 6am to 9am on East Coast Radio, also known as ECR, a Durban-based commercial radio station with an audience of just under 2 million. It is the second largest regional radio station in South Africa.
Not bad for a guy whose career started with a dare. Yes in 1981 – while still a student – Daryl was challenged by his colleagues at university to audition for the campus radio station. It was a well known fact around campus that Daryl was a shy person and they were sure that the concept of talking to the entire studio body would scare him. But to everyone’s surprise he walked in, and, in his own words, "switched on the mike and was hooked". The rest, as they say is history.
Besides, being a well-known radio DJ, Daryl holds a degree in Clinical Psychology and a post-graduate diploma in counseling and clinical assessment. He is also a regular opinion-editorial columnist with The Sunday Times, and has lectured in journalism and business communication. Before rejoining ECR in 2006 he was host of the weekend breakfast show on Talk Radio 702 and a programming consultant in radio.
Daryl is married to Chantell Ilbury - one of South Africa's top scenario strategists, and co-author with Clem Sunter of the best-selling books The Mind of a Fox - Scenario Planning in Action, Games Foxes Play - Planning for Extraordinary Times and Socrates & the Fox. Daryl and Chantell have two children, Roxanne and Mitchell, and of course two Jack Russells, Butch and Daisy
Although Daryl doesn’t have a degree in pet psychology, he trusts Purina ONE to keep Butch and Daisy bright eyed, bushy tailed and all round healthier and happier.

HIGHVELD STEREO
Sam Cowen from Highveld says there’s nothing better for her new pup than Purina ONE
British-born Sam Cowen is a South African radio DJ and co-host of the popular breakfast show 'The Rude Awakening' that airs every weekday on Johannesburg's popular local radio station, 94.7 Highveld Stereo.
Sam Cowen was born in Welwyn Garden City, UK. She immigrated to South Africa in 1980 with her family. In 1997, Sam started at 94.7 and has co-hosted the Rude Awakening, the station's breakfast show ever since.
In 2001 Sam co-wrote No Sugar, Canderel Please with Harry Sideropoulos, a comedy stage show on weight and the modern adult. It's played six seasons so far and there are plans to take it beyond our borders. Sam has also written two books. The first, "Waiting for Christopher", is a tongue-in-cheek look at pregnancy and pregnant mothers, and was written whilst she herself was pregnant with her son, Christopher. Her second book "Good Enough Mother" is the story of her second pregnancy and sees a new little girl, Genevieve come into the life she has built with Christopher and her lovely husband Martin.
Along with her husband and children, the Cowen family is completed by her three cats and three dogs, the latest addition being her new puppy, Emijen. Even with her super-active lifestyle and a menagerie of pets, Sam can always trust Purina ONE to give the four legged members of her family the premium nutrition they deserve.

Jeremy Mansfield is a radio host, television presenter and comedian. He is currently the host of The Rude Awakening on the Johannesburg-based radio station 94.7 Highveld Stereo.
Grahamstown-born Mansfield's broadcasting career started at Rhodes University, where he studied speech, journalism and drama. His popularity continued to grow and he was soon appointed as the regular presenter of 702's Saturday afternoon magazine programme. Two short years later, he took over the popular 702 weekday afternoon show.
His big breakthrough came in 1996 when he moved to Highveld Stereo where he started their top-rated weekday breakfast show, The Rude Awakening. Jeremy also presented the popular television quiz show, A Word or 2, which ran for 10 seasons.
Mansfield is known for his wicked sense of humour and over the years has released four CDs - "Raw", "Beer-ya-ti-ful"; "Even More Raw" and "Eastlife"- all perfect vocal training for calling his cat (Honey). Jeremy has also written three joke books.
In 2003, he married Jacqui Thompson, a vegetarian, former game ranger and author. Following on the success of her best selling book An Unpopular War, the pair wrote Zhoozsh!, an anecdotal cookbook. This won Book of the Year in the South African section of the Gourmand Cookbook Awards.
Needless to say, Jeremy and Jacqui are extremely thoughtful when it comes to nutrition, that’s why they only settle for the best when it comes to their cat’s health and wellbeing. And, as they saying goes, if cats really do choose their masters, little Honey couldn’t have chosen better. |

KFM
Ryan O’ Conner from KFM can’t believe the results he’s seen in Rocky and Cocoa
Ryan O’ Connor is a born and bred Capetonian who “loves the city and its people.” He got his first job in radio at community station CCFM in 1995, shortly after matriculating from Edgemead High School. “I had a Christian dance music show on Friday nights, but it was my break into radio and I was grateful for it,” he says. Ryan gained further radio experience by writing and presenting weekend sport on 94.5 Kfm, before moving to Good Hope FM where he stayed for close to nine years, first presenting the breakfast show and then changing to the afternoon drive.
During this time he also did a short weekend stint at 5FM. Ryan says he always wanted to be a radio presenter. “I grew up listening to the radio a lot, so music has always been a part of my life. Even as a kid I knew that I would be in radio one day.”
When he’s not presenting the Cape’s biggest breakfast show on 94.5 Kfm, Ryan enjoys spending time outdoors, running and cycling - all of which can be quite a handful with two Rhodesian Ridgebacks (Rocky and Cocoa). At home he enjoys watching sport, listening to 80’s music, collecting sought after Swiss watches and spending time with his wife.
All in all, Ryan enjoys living a healthy lifestyle and it’s no different when it comes to his family. He has often declared that his dogs are his children so it’s no wonder that Ryan only chooses Purina ONE for them.

JACARANDA 94.2
Darren Scott along with Darryll Illbury couldn’t believe the difference they’ve seen in their Jack Russels
Not long ago, Darren Scott would pop up whenever you switched to the Super Sport channel, either live from a rugby match or more often than not, he’d be involved in studio banter with rugby legend Naas Botha. In 2007, he was MNet SuperSport’s studio anchor throughout the Rugby World Cup
Scott’s boy-next-door image has served him well from his early days at Capital Radio (1984) to his first sports talk show on 702 radio (1995) to the “Just Plain Show”, which Darren hosted daily on 5fm. Darren Scott then hosted the Breakfast show on East Coast radio and is now the front man for the weekday afternoon show. And, as if that wasn’t enough, Darren commutes everyday to Johannesburg to host the morning show on Jacaranda 94.2.
“I don’t have a radio voice or persona, or a television voice for that matter”, he once said. “What you see is what you get. It’s the same person on air or off air”.
“I'm a born and bred Joburger. A lot of people think I'm a Durban boy. It probably stems from my days working as a jock on Capital Radio and now working on East Coast radio.”
Darren’s hobbies include golf and music, and in his spare time he’s an amateur poker player. Upon entering the 2009 All Africa poker tournament, Darren’s charity of choice was Boys Town.
Scott is also engaged to a former Miss Shark and splits his time between Durban and Johannesburg. Whilst commuting, Darren trusts Purina ONE to keep his naughty but lovable Jack Russel (Scootch) healthy and happy while he is not there to play with him.

HEART FM
Lee grew up in Durban and, from a very early age, had no doubt in his mind that he was headed for a career in radio. Aged just 17, he won a talent search competition and soon after found himself working on Capital Radio.
From there he’s enjoyed increasing success, especially after moving to Cape Town. Following a decade on air in various positions, Lee has been the host of the Hearty Breakfast since 2007.
Despite being so firmly in the spotlight, Lee really enjoys chilling out at home: “Family is very important to me and I really look forward to those moments that I get to spend with them. Radio can sometimes be very demanding, but I take every opportunity to be thankful for where I am today.”
Lee is also quite a whiz in the kitchen, and loves cooking and entertaining for friends bragging that his roots have taught him how to make a mean curry!
He certainly knows how to serve up a really hot offering as host of the Hearty Breakfast Show, and says “I really get the sense now, more than ever that I am talking to Cape Town”.
In the mother city, Lee’s furrier side of the family includes his dog and cat, and although they aren’t the greatest fans of Lee’s spicier cooking, we hear that they are quite fond of Purina ONE.
